Frequently Asked Questions

1)  Is Ayurvedic treatment safe?

Yes it is one of the most safe treatment systems in the world.  Ayurveda recognises that the more powerful a substance is it is more toxic as well. So Ayurvedic system emphasises the importance of choosing the mildest intervention that can correct the problem as  the best option. So the conventional therapies and products described in Ayurveda are designed with safety as a primary criterion.  That is why they are sometimes considered as slow. However if the disease is very acute and can cause damage to the body within a short time, Ayurveda is open to the use of powerful substances a s well. Those substances will not have the same safety profile.  Further, different individuals can be allergic to various substances and so we do come across some cases of patients who are allergic to some ingredients. There are even people who are allergic to common food items like milk, wheat, etc. So one cannot predict who might be allergic to which item.

2)  Can a person already taking Allopathic Medicines use Ayurveda?

Yes. Most of the persons who seek Ayurvedi treatment for chronic diseases and problems pertaining to old age are diebetic, Hypertensive or on medication for thyroid and several other problems. From our experience of several years they do not develop any problem by using Allopathic medication concurrently with Ayurvedic medication and tharapeutic procedures. However. patients are adviced to mention to the Ayurvedic Physician the details of western medicines being consumed by the them so that  they do not prescribe some thing on the same lines. For example a person who is on Anti-diabetic medication can have hypo-glycemia if the Ayurvedic physician doesn't know that he is already on the  medication and additionally prescribes medication that can help lower blood sugar levels. However persons with compromised liver or renal functions may have problems  metabolizing a large quantity of medication more than their threshold, whether they are Ayurvedic or western medicine.

4) Can Ayurveda Cure all diseases?

Ayurveda does not claim to cure all diseases. On the contrary it classifies diseases and different stages of the diseases into curable, controllable and in-curable. Ex. Once a person is a full blown Diabetic, he cannot be cured  according to Ayurveda. His condition can only be managed. This holds good for several diseases.

5) Can Ayurveda be used to treat children?

Yes. Ayurveda has a specialised branch called Koumara bhritya (Paediatrics) dealing with disease of the children and their remedies.

6) Can people with severe diseases like Stroke, Cancer etc be subjected to Ayurvedic treatment?

Yes. Ayurveda can be a very good complementary system in the treatment of several chronic and severe diseases, even those conditions  not responding to conventional medicine. It can also be an effective stand alone solution to several chronic problems like Slipped Disc, Cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy etc. However Ayurvedic treatment is not the best in terms of solving acute dangerous conditions like Myo-cardial infractions, acute stage of stroke etc.
Post teh acute stage they benefit immensely with Ayurvedic treatments either alongside Allopathic medicines or as stand alone.
